3 Rubric and Feedback

As we are giving feedback on your ePortfolio throughout the year, we will leave notes about whether your ePortfolio is visually appealing, easy to navigate, and shows some creative effort. We want you to try to show and not just tell what you are learning from your internship.

You will have monthly prompts to reflect on your internship. When you submit the link each month, ambassadors will score your responses using a few rubric rows to give you feedback on what you might add or to let you know you’re right on track. Brandi and Daniel will also visit ePortfolios throughout the year and will give feedback during the winter break. We’re here to help you shine and encourage you to do your very best! You are welcome to ask us or your internship team for feedback at any time (they love to see ePortfolios).

Example Responses

This is a breakdown of what to expect on the rubric. We expect you to score full points in the assignments scored by ambassadors, which means you answered all the prompts and both described and explained your answers with examples and specifics. For the November and April rubrics, we expect you to aim for a 3 or 4. Fall rubrics usually have a maximum of 3 points while spring adds a level for 4 points. The prompt reads…

“After you submit the self-assessment add the following to your ePortfolio:

  • Which skill(s) on the survey are you using so far or where are you more confident already? Give examples of how you’re using the skill or how you know you’re growing.
  • Which skill(s) from the survey would you like to continue to work on? What will you do to grow the skill(s)?
  • How are you using and/or building on your existing strengths or experiences so far as an intern?”

Score of 1: Basic List with no expansion on how skills will be worked on or how they are used

  • What we expect from freshman students
  • Example Answer: “I want to work on communication.”

Score of 2: You tell us what the skill is but there is a lot more room for details

  • What we expect from sophomore students
  • Example Answer: “I do communication at work by talking with team members and want to work on it through creating my final presentation.”

Score of 3: Explains the skill – tells us why it is important and expands upon connections on how you will use the skill in the future

  • What we expect from junior students
  • Example Answer: “Communication is important to my future goal of being a healthcare professional because I will need to effectively communicate with teammates and patients to provide the best care. Doing this internship is helping me grow this skill in a setting similar to my future jobs.”

Score of 4: Integration – connected story that flows between questions/prompts, explain why it is important to you and expand on connections to how you’ll use the skill in the future

  • What we expect from senior students
  • Example Answer: “Through doing this internship, I realized that communication in the workplace is different from the classroom and my previous part-time jobs. For example, (give us an example here). I realized I will be utilizing communication when closing education gaps for patients by meeting them where they are at and building upon that knowledge. I was able to work on my professional communication by (example of what you did here). In preparing for the showcase and presenting updates to my team every month, I learned that I need to keep working on my presentation skills and will do that by (example of what you will do here).”
