8 Course Credit and Honors Credit

Some interns want to register for credit for LHSI. This is not required. If you want to explore this, you have two options outlined below. LHSI does not manage either option and you will have to work with your direct supervisor and your academic advisor or the Honors College to register and ensure you complete all requirements.

Academic Department or School

You may register for credit through your academic school to put LHSI on your transcript. The course will vary by major and school. Check with your academic advisor for options and requirements and the process if you want to receive academic credit. You do not need permission from Brandi to do this. This is typically to record the experience on your transcript and does not need work hours beyond what you’re already doing. The course may have additional academic requirements such as assignments or reports.

Honors College

Honors College students wanting to use LHSI for honors credit may register for the HON-H 398 course for 1-3 credit hours (depending on the scope of the project) in fall or spring. You have to contact Lisa Ruch (lruch@iu.edu) for permission to register for this course. This option requires your faculty supervisor to agree to supervise you and give you a grade on the project and/or internship work. The contract will be with and signed by your supervisor but you should let Brandi know too so that she’s aware you’re enrolling.

For all course options you must also complete all LHSI requirements and remain in good standing with LHSI. Brandi can confirm your hours at the end of the semester if the course requires verification of the number of hours.
