7 LHSI on the IU Indianapolis Record
IU Indianapolis has the Record, which is a collection of verified learning experiences that involve engaged learning and is a supplement to your formal course-based transcript. It is like a visual transcript of experiences outside the classroom, acting as a way to collect and verify deep learning and reflective activities across a number of categories that may not be part of a course including experiences with Diversity, Global Engagement, Internships/Career Development, Leadership, Research, Service, and Creative Expression. Employers and graduate programs will start looking for this supplemental document when available.
We have an entry on the Record that you can earn by fully participating in LHSI requirements. These experiences are meant to include learning and reflective activities to help you more deeply engage in your internship (or other experiences). Research shows that simply doing something like an internship, service learning, or undergraduate research does not guarantee learning and growth. You need to reflect and do other self-assessments to get to the deeper experience.
You must complete all requirements and receive a sufficient score on the ePortfolio rubric (ambassadors will give feedback throughout the year to help you!) to get the LHSI Record notation. To maintain the high educational standards of experiences on the Record and LHSI as a program, we will not verify your participation in LHSI for applications like Top 100, graduate programs, etc. unless you completed the requirements and received the Record entry. If you do not receive the Record entry for LHSI, you are still welcome to list your supervisor to verify that you completed work with them.
The LHSI entry will also include the number of hours you worked. Some professional school applications ask for the hours you put into your experiences and this is a great place to view all the hours for experiences captured on the Record.
We will begin automatically applying this entry in June for interns who completed the above requirements by the end of the internship. We do a progress check in December and will remove you from LHSI if you have not completed fall requirements.
