30 Safety and Training List

Due to variations in requirements across our many internship sites, LHSI does not coordinate or administer the training and certifications on this page. These are some suggestions on what interns have completed in the past. Interns should generally do the training required for employees at your site.

Compliance and Safety Training

Mandatory Compliance Training if the intern will be working in any of the following six compliance areas:

    • Animal Care and Use
    • Biosafety
    • Human Subjects
    • Radiation Safety
    • Responsible conduct of research

Safety trainings: Some may need to be done in person

Online Conflict of Interest Statement

Additional background checks for Programs Involving Children (PIC)

IRB Protocols

You may be required to add interns to existing IRB protocol. Some individual student projects may also need to go through IRB approval.

Professional Liability Insurance

Interns at some hospital locations must carry professional liability insurance for the duration of the internship in addition to meeting whatever safety and health requirements you have other employees complete.
The insurance applies even if the student will not have direct patient contact.  The insurance is at no cost to you or the student, but we do need to complete the paperwork prior to the start of the internship. The director coordinates the submission of this information.
