20 Interview Structure

Internship overview

Tell them a little bit about your team, what you do, and what they will do as interns. Students read your description when they applied and should have reviewed it again prior to meeting with you. This is a good time to fill in any additional details or answer their questions about the role before moving on to interview questions.

Ask questions

Ask the same set of interview questions for every interview to best compare and assess. We recommend focusing on the skills you identified in your job description or asking about any other qualities that are important such as attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and sticking to a schedule.

Review available schedule for fall

Students are required to bring a schedule for fall with courses and other commitments. Review this, set expectations, and discussion concerns.

Student Questions

We have prepared students to ask questions to decide if this is the right fit for their needs and what they want out of an internship. Please leave interview time for their questions. The questions might also help you understand their values and goals better.

Tour and meeting colleagues

If this is an in person meeting, show the students around. If this is an online meeting, offer to have them come in for a tour or shadowing before making final decisions. Being able to see the workplace or meet other coworkers can make a difference in the students’ impression of your site even if you are mostly remote.

meet with all assigned students

Students must meet with all assigned sites to remain eligible for LHSI. As such, we expect that you will meet with all assigned students. If you do not hear from them within a week of the interview match email or are having communication issues, please reach out to our team for assistance. We try to be proactive if we hear a student is dropping from the process but do not always hear that from students, or they are trying to get in touch with you but emails may be going to junk mail. Let us problem solve with you!
