13 Prepare questions to ask in the interview
Prepare questions to ask your interviewer! Interviews are always a two-way conversation. You are trying to see if they are a fit for you just as much as they are seeing if you are a fit for them. Also, the questions you ask communicate a great deal about how thoughtfully you have prepared for the interview, and in turn how thoughtful of an employee you might be for them.
Here are some questions you could consider asking in addition to any you might brainstorm on your own:
- What is the anticipated amount of hours of work per week at your site?
- Is remote work available? Hybrid?
- How is progress/success measured in this internship?
- How will my responsibilities change over the course of the year?
- What are the biggest challenges that I will face in this position?
- When is the busiest time of the year for this position?
- How do you onboard new applicants?
- Where have successful interns moved to after working at this site?
- What learning and development opportunities will be available to me at this site?
- What traits do you think a successful candidate has for this job?
- Is there anything that I can clarify with you about my capabilities to perform in this role?
- What are the main responsibilities of this position?
- Can you describe a typical day in the job?
- What challenges does this position face?
- What qualities make someone successful here?
- Are there opportunities for advancement or to continue at this site after LHSI?
- How is performance evaluated?
- How do team members support one another?
- What are the team’s culture and goals?
- Who does this position interact with?
- What does the perfect intern look like?
- What advice would you give yourself if starting your position again?
- How does the team bond?
- How will independence over my work change over the course of the year?
Feel free to pick and choose from this list or come up with your own. You will certainly not want to ask every question on this list, but the ones you choose will communicate what you value. Ask the same questions at every interview to be able to compare their responses before you decide on ranking the sites.
