5 Professionalism

In the context of LHSI interviews, professionalism means being a good communicator, following instructions, being prepared, and making sure you have time to fulfill your commitments and do your best work.

We and the internship sites expect:

• Prompt, clear communication. Respond within 48 hours of receiving an email. We’ve provided templates in this handbook to help you include everything you need in messages.
• Follow instructions provided by LHSI and the internship sites. You will need to follow instructions well as an intern, we are looking for this skill starting now.
• Be prepared for your interviews and show you read the internship descriptions. The supervisors want to know why you are interested in their work.
• Show up to your scheduled interviews on time. Use a calendar to keep track and set notifications or an alarm as a reminder.
• Think carefully about how you will use your time next school year to balance your commitments and give your best to everything you’ve taken on. It’s ok to cut back and only do a few experiences a year.
