Ars Poetica
The investigation produced 1,987 pages of text.
A committee reads over it, scrutinizes it – so many words
and they still
cannot agree
on what to do
What more explanation could there be?
Then the poem.
Fifteen lines, fifteen words, fifteen syllables
It could be exact and transparent
It could be ambiguous and vague
It could scold you like your parents
It could bother you like a plague.
But the poem says more than the 1,987 pages.
The poem moves your soul
Like Kerri Strug’s vault of gold.
The poem asks you to ask why,
As you look up with tears at the sky.
The poem makes you mad mad mad
Or maybe sad sad sad.
The poem doesn’t waste your time
Even if it does not rhyme.
The art of poetry helps us find our human nature –
A nature that if not found will leave us as empty shells
Left after a gruesome battle for dominance
Where winner takes all…all but his own essence.
Poetry is necessary
Even the committee can agree on that.
