AMPATH Consortium Clinical Rotations in Kenya
- Residents:

- Clinical rotations have restarted now that the physician strike has ended. Residents scheduled for upcoming rotations may proceed as planned.
- One Brown medicine resident is scheduled to begin a one-month rotation in early June.
- Clinical Rotation Approval Process:

- If your institution plans to send trainees to Kenya during this or the next academic year, please contact Victoria Eder (vneder@iu.edu) to confirm ward availability.
- Once availability has been confirmed and at least 10 weeks in advance of the rotation, the trainee(s) should submit an AMPATH Kenya Visit Pre-Approval Form. This will be reviewed by the AMPATH Education team as a final check; once approved, the trainee may request housing and apply for a medical license.
2024-2025 Moi Registrar Rotations in US/Canada/Sweden

- Planning is also underway for a Moi faculty member/Aga Khan neurology fellow to complete a six-month rotation at IU starting this fall.
- As part of AMPATH’s commitment to reciprocity, any AMPATH member institution that sends trainees to Kenya is expected to host Moi University trainees. If you have not already done so, please notify Victoria Eder (vneder@iu.edu) when your institution’s plans to host Moi students and/or registrars in the upcoming academic year.

- May Arrivals: three Purdue pharmacy students, four IU nursing students, and one non-consortium student (approved for OB/GYN rotation)

2024 Slemenda Scholars
- Slemenda Scholars Madeline Cory, Bethlehem Daniel, Om Dalal and Ryan McArdle arrived in Eldoret on May 22. During this summer scholarship program, they will experience AMPATH by participating in rounds, collaborating on field projects and working alongside Moi University medical students. The scholars’ faculty mentors this year include Drs. Matthew Turissini, Jenny Morgan, Megan McHenry, and Laura Ruhl.

- US B-1 Visa Applicants (16): 14 approved, 2 denied
- US J-1 Visa Applicants (4): applications still in progress

- AMPATH Global Education Committee meets the third Thursday of each month from 9-10AM ET to discuss education-related topics. IU’s 6th Annual Global Health Scholars Day took place on May 10th this year, showcasing the excellent work being done by the IU community to improve the care of patients worldwide, research the complexities of global health, and educate learners about the care of local and global populations. The day began with IUSM Medicine Grand Rounds presented by Virginia Caine, MD, Director of the Marion County (Indianapolis) Public Health Department and Associate Professor of Medicine at IU School of Medicine. Dr. Caine’s presentation can be viewed here. Dr. Caine’s presentation was followed by poster presentations. Top global health posters and presenters recognized during the event were:

- “Development of a Person-Informed Orientation Manual for Moi University Medical Trainees Rotating in North America” — Mary Slaughter
