17 Inquiry

Socrates the wise said he knew nothing.
But in the end, nothing is something:
He knew that he knew.
He eviscerated arguments founded on dust,
And brought to heel hubris and dishonor.
He fought in Athens’ wars, living out his precepts
Of the Just, the Right, and the Good.
Ministering to doubt in a way that birthed truth.
Millenia later we have the opposite problem:
We think we know all, and will not question
What has been handed down to us.
Afraid to stir the waters of contempt
For looking too far or dreaming too much.
Our downfall will come from not daring enough.
