Specialty Divisions
Endocrinology
Faculty endocrinologists use the latest medical advances to treat disorders of the endocrine (hormonal) system, including diabetes, thyroid disease and cancer, osteoporosis, and adrenal and pituitary conditions. Services offered include comprehensive diabetes education, individual consultations, diabetes prevention programs, insulin initiation and regulation, insulin pump education, gestational diabetes education, diabetes counseling and medical nutrition therapy.
Under division chief Michael Econs, MD, the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism demonstrates excellence in teaching, patient care, and research. Medical school and resident education includes the Endocrinology section in the Foundation of Clinical Practice course and active endocrine rotations for students and residents. Residents taking the endocrine elective, as well as the women’s health elective, rotate through our many clinics.
Endocrinology faculty and staff are actively engaged in research across the endocrinology spectrum as well as partnering with researchers from a variety of other specialties.
The division offers a two-year ACGME-accredited fellowship training for physicians who completed a residency in internal medicine at an ACGME-accredited program. The fellowship prepares physicians for careers in academic medicine or clinical practice by providing a firm grounding in the fundamentals of endocrinology and metabolism. The program offers clinical training, both in the outpatient and inpatient venues, as well as outstanding research mentorship by nationally known research faculty.
