Gastroenterology/Hepatology
Led by Division Director Mohammad Al-Haddad, MD, the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology within the Department of Medicine at IU School of Medicine has a distinguished tradition of innovation in research and education and a demonstrated excellence in patient care. This is one of the largest divisions of its kind in the United States, offering an enormous breadth of clinical and research expertise for learners and faculty peers. Experienced faculty physicians of this division practice at IU Health Gastroenterology, offering comprehensive care, including early disease detection, advanced diagnostics, and cutting-edge medical and surgical treatments.
The division’s research program is extensive and is both laboratory-based and patient-oriented.
The division trains outstanding gastroenterologists in a three-year ACGME-accredited fellowship program that combines excellent clinical and academic training. The program curriculum is tailored to each individual fellow’s career goals. Education and mentoring are critical to the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, which hosts one of the most robust general gastrointestinal and advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowships in the United States. Former trainees of this program are now leaders at academic medical centers throughout the United States and successful practicing gastroenterologists in Indiana and beyond.
