Bright Days Ahead

Improving support for NGI and notifications to Internet2 community

GlobalNOC will be finishing up the transition to the Internet2 Next-Generation Infrastructure network in 2022, with an emphasis on improving support for the new platform. This will largely take the form of additional and improved instrumentation, a greater emphasis on automation, and updated incident management processes.

Our team will also focus on improving notifications to the Internet2 community and making the operation of the network more transparent and understandable to its consumers.

Database user interface remaining a priority

We will continue to refine and improve the next generation of our database user interface in 2022. Our goals include working on fixes, incorporating feedback, and adding new pages until we’ve achieved feature parity with the existing application. As we move forward, continuing to receive bug reports and feedback will be crucial to the project’s success.

Piloting lightweight NOC services

We are always looking to broaden our reach, and in 2022 we will be piloting a new program to offer our services to smaller colleges and universities. Although our current market is backbone regional and federal networks, we are setting our sights on campuses whose needs are not as customized or time intensive.

We will offer a suite of affordable, lightweight NOC services including basic network monitoring, standardized network measurement, traffic volume data, network performance, and more.

Improving the service desk

As part of our continual service improvement efforts, we are investing in a director-level leader who will be responsible exclusively for the GlobalNOC service desk and leading our upcoming service desk review.

This role will enhance our capabilities in the service desk related to automation, bring engineering functions into the service desk, and enable efficient scaling as the networks we support grow.

It’s a comprehensive review of everything we’re doing and how can we do things better.
