Screech

Behold the hawk will fly, for when its prey

Quick shoots out from the field or from the wood:

Afraid the end is near a rodent stood.

So scared a rabbit runs, its heart gives way

A simple squirrel and vole, they cannot say.

A reptile: lizard, frog, will also do,

Along an insect becomes protein-food.

It seems too much for little ones to stay,

But when the sun is high the strikes will come

They’ll come from those who seek to guard their right

And who defend their nests from all and one!

A mighty gang of little sparrows fight

They drive away the hawk that came so young

They pinch with beaks, a screech, a force unsung.
