130 Resources for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder

The Internet can provide the means for individuals with ASD to find many resources, connect with each other, and create support communities for themselves and the people they live and work with. Below is a selection of both individual and organizational sites which our friends with ASD have identified as particularly helpful, both to them and to the people who care about and support them.

The Arc of Indiana

The Arc has lots of information on self-advocacy including finding a local group, tips of self-direction and links to other groups such as Self- Advocates of Indiana and SABE.

Autism Society of Indiana

State chapter of the nationwide support organization provides information and referrals to individuals, families and professionals affected by autism across the lifespan in Indiana. There is helpful information on employment, housing and transitions, as well as a list of other resources for individuals with ASD.

Autism Support Network

Online support network “connects families and individuals touched by ASD with each other, provides support and insight, and acts as a resource guide for education,  interventions, strategies and therapies for autism.”

Global and Regional Asperger Syndrome Partnership (GRASP)

Provides a network of regional peer-run support groups and online discussion groups for adults and teens across the country as well as an online discussion group for family members and clinicians.

HANDS in Autism®

Provides website with information, materials and e-learning opportunities for parents, educators, and professionals; scheduled events including Make It Take It and Learn It Live It ™ series as well as Next Steps™ workshops; ongoing opportunities for volunteer, internship, job exploration and training opportunities; and information and innovative resources and opportunities deriving from the HANDS in Autism® training model. Indiana Resource Center for Autism

Provides information and training on early diagnosis, effective early childhood and school-age programs, transition across grade levels and stages of life, post-secondary opportunities, community employment and living options, family support, and other activities that lead to an improved quality of life for individuals with autism.

OASIS @ MAAP

Offers articles, educational and professional resources, and links to local, national and international support groups, lists of schools and camps, conference information, recommended reading, and moderated support message boards. In addition, MAAP Services provides newsletter, email and phone support.

Self-Advocates of Indiana

This is a group that is run by and for people with developmental disabilities. It is the only statewide organization of its kind.

Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE)

A national, non-profit organization that is run by a board of self-advocates from across the country. You can contact them to join a self-advocacy group, become a member of SABE and find out about their conferences.
