Navigating Library Resources

In this second unit, we will examine traditional research strategies and methods, how materials are organized, how library databases work as well as two popular web-based research tools, Wikipedia and Google Scholar. We will then explore the scholarly research process and examine the parts of a scholarly journal article.

By the end of this unit, you will be able to:

  1. Search for library materials using effective search strategies
  2. Understand how to use background sources and search Wikipedia effectively
  3. Summarize how libraries organize materials and how to retrieve a book from the library
  4. Differentiate the differences between library journal databases and Google Scholar
  5. Explain the peer review process
