In this first unit, we will look at how information is created, the challenges that new technologies have created for the production and consumption of information, and strategies for evaluating what we discover online.

By end of this chapter, you will be able to:

  1. Understand past methods of information production and how technology is changing information expectations (information cycle)
  2. Recognize the concept of confirmation bias and how to use the SIFT method and lateral reading to evaluate information
  3. Identify Algorithms in web searching and its impact on polarization
  4. Understand how Google works and recall its strengths and weaknesses
