Compare the two bread labels below.  The first label has enriched flour which is wheat flour.  This is a white flour product for the most part because the enriched wheat flour is the first ingredient.  The whole wheat flour in the bread is the second ingredient and since ingredients are listed with the greatest ingredient amount first, it is predominately a white flour product.  he second bread is a better choice for good health because it has more fiber and less preservatives.

Breakfast Toast Recipes

Cinnamon Apple Toast

Prep Time:  5 minutes

Servings: 1

 

Ingredients

1 slice toasted whole wheat bread

1 Tbsp. cashew butter

1/4 small apple, sliced

Dash of cinnamon

 

Instructions

Toast the bread and then spread with the cashew butter.  Slice the apple and then place the slices on top of the bread and put on a dash of cinnamon.  Substitute another nut butter if desired.

Carbohydrates – 20 grams, Protein – 3 grams, Fat – 5 grams

Cashew Banana Toast

Prep Time:  5 minutes

Servings: 1

 

Ingredients

1 slice whole wheat bread

1 Tbsp. cashew butter

¼ of a medium banana

Dash of cinnamon

Fruit for plating if desired

 

Directions

Toast 1 slice of bread and spread with cashew butter.  Top with banana slices and dash of cinnamon.  Substitute other nut butters if desired.
