6 Follow the Scent

It may surprise some of you to learn that fragrances were originally designed as a way for people to get closer to the gods. This would often be with fragrances that utilized ingredients of various flowers, resins, and other plants during ceremonies of dedication to various cultures gods/deities.

It was in the classical era between 1600 to 1700 that master perfumers were born. Because of the high risk of water contamination in that era, bathing became less frequent. People needed something to mask body odor. More complex mixes of fragrances and powders were created. However, these were often only affordable to the very wealthy. And left the rest of society smelling…..well….all natural.
