9 Depression
with Julius Mason
No matter how bright, some days remain dark
Spending sunny days stuck under the clouds
Trying to light a fire without a spark
Unheard cries to God drown out other sounds
Depression is being a dog with no bark
My biggest smiles are really just frowns
I look ahead, but the future feels stark
wondering how to turn my mood around
I carry depression like a birthmark
I’m born with it, it’s not something I found
It eats up my happiness like a shark
This issue is far more than just a noun
“Just get over it” they often remark
I wear this darkness like a crown
Getting better is a path I must embark
Depression tries, but it won’t keep me down
