9 Depression

with Julius Mason

No matter how bright, some days remain darkSpending sunny days stuck under the cloudsTrying to light a fire without a sparkUnheard cries to God drown out other sounds

Depression is being a dog with no barkMy biggest smiles are really just frownsI look ahead, but the future feels starkwondering how to turn my mood around

I carry depression like a birthmarkI’m born with it, it’s not something I foundIt eats up my happiness like a sharkThis issue is far more than just a noun

“Just get over it” they often remarkI wear this darkness like a crownGetting better is a path I must embarkDepression tries, but it won’t keep me down
