Cultural note

According to the culture of the Zulu people it is important to offer another person a drink, even if it is only water. Refusing a drink offer is regarded as being rude, so if you are not thirsty you just say thank you, and you take a sip. Passers-by are regarded as hungry people or thirsty people, so if you see a passer-by you offer him or her water or food if he or she is hungry. Amahewu is another important drink that people offer one another. It is made with cornmeal, and it is filling. Umqombothi is a nutritious drink made from wheat or sorghum. Umqombothi is a common drink at traditional ceremonies and events.  Imbiza Isingula) izimbiza (plural) is a medicinal herbal mixture that is taken by a sick person, a pregnant person or regular self care. Therev are different types of izimbiza that are prepared for various specific purposes although uzifozonke (for all ailments/purposes) is the types that people can take for general self care or to treat all sorts of ailments.
