Elements of Songwriting
In this chapter, you will find the basic elements that go into writing a song. I will cover four elements that I believe to be the most important for beginners to understand and apply to their song. The four elements will include: melody, rhythm, dynamics, and harmony. These elements are the most important, in my opinion, as they are the building blocks for any type of song or genre of music. Although there are more elements that you may learn about in the future of your music career, these elements are great for a beginner level and are very necessary aspects to writing!
At the end of the chapter, there will also be an overview of the instrument families and how they can be applied to songwriting. I will give a couple of examples of instruments in each family, and the genres that they are typically used for. As I always encourage musicians to push the boundaries and experiment when songwriting, this will act as a basic guide to help your understanding of the universal forms of writing a song!
