The Mission Statement

The School of Education prepares each student to become a collaborative leader and advocate for the teaching profession.

We promote education, counseling, and leadership as a creative endeavor informed by research.

In our initial programs (i.e., undergraduate programs), teacher candidates become analytical, competent, ethical, and reflective professionals who promote culturally-responsive practices within today’s classroom.

In our advanced programs (i.e., graduate programs), candidates are transformed from practitioners into key decision-makers, researchers, and partners in school and community settings.

(Note: Now that you have almost completed your Bachelor’s degree, you probably want to take some time to settle into your teaching practice before considering your next degree or certificate. However, please know that IU South Bend offers several advanced degree programs that could further your education and elevate your status among professionals, such as yourself. Just something to think about…)
