Introduction
Welcome to EDUC-M420: Student Teaching Seminar!
I am thrilled that you are joining me on this learning journey. As you have probably already realized, this course intentionally coincides with your student teaching experience.
You may be asking, either quietly or loudly: “Why would anyone design the final semester of an educator’s college experience to include a full week of planning, preparation, and teaching in the field AND class time – either online or in person?
My initial response would be that I would have to agree with you. On paper, it looks like a ridiculous idea proposed by people who don’t understand all of the demands placed on last-semester students.
However, there is a rhyme and a reason for doing it this way. We know that you will need a safe container to verbalize and process your questions, your concerns, your successes, and yes, even your failures. (Note: It is okay to fail as long as we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and start all over again!)
We also know that intentionally guiding you through this final semester will help to ensure your overall success down the road. So, bear with us…bear with me, and let us push off and embark on our grand adventure.”
