STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION, JOURNALISM
AND MEDIA

  • This was the first year of the newly merged Strategic Communication, Journalism and Media program. A long time coming, the communications faculty were rewarded for their efforts and are excited to begin programming for the upcoming academic year.
  • Communication Studies partnered with the Career Development Center to host the 2023 COMM EXPO, a networking event for students interested in communication-related careers. The EXPO was held on March 1, with more than 35 students attending. The event kicked off with a panel discussion featuring the following IU Southeast graduates: Kathryn Finn (‘15), Brand Manager of Deep Eddy Vodka at Heaven Hill Distillery; Aprile Rickert, Southern Indiana Reporter at Louisville Public Media; and Dahra Lambert (‘22), Corporate Human Resources Coordinator at Schulte Hospitality. After the panel discussion wrapped up, students attended an information fair/meet-and-greet networking session featuring advertising/PR/journalism/media/corporate/nonprofit communication professionals from local companies, agencies, and organizations. Most professionals in attendance were graduates of IU Southeast’s communication and media programs. These industry representatives answered questions about their jobs, internships, skill sets and experiences in the field, as well as what new graduates can expect in the current marketplace.“The Expo was invaluable to me,” said Strategic Communication senior Harlee Dorman (‘23). “I now feel like I have a plan for my career.”
