Music

  • Held on February 26, IU Southeast Orchestra, Concert Choir and Community Chorus Directed by Dr. Molly Baugh and Dr. Brittny Kempfer performed, Fauré’s Requiem. Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem owes its roots to Christian faith and was altogether different, though, because here was a composer who, unlike many of his contemporaries, had no clear religious beliefs.
  • Directed by Dr. Brittny Kempfer, with The Sera-Tones, directed by Tim Haertel, a program entitled You Are Not Alone was presented on April 20. The IU Southeast Concert Choir is the university’s premier choral ensemble, consisting mainly of music majors and students with previous singing experience.
  • The IU Southeast Orchestra, directed by Dr. Molly Baugh, presented a concert entitled New World and New Music, Apr 23. The program included Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No.9 in E Minor, “From the New World’ and a new work for strings and percussion by IU Southeast student, Scott Ulrich.
  • The IU Southeast Orchestra and Concert Band, directed by Dr. Molly Baugh and Adjunct Lecturer, Philip A. Thomas presented the Summer Pops Concert June 3. The program included silent films with live musical accompaniment by the IU Southeast Orchestra as well as the IU Southeast Concert Band performing music from Raiders of the Lost Ark, selections from The Phantom of the Opera, and more!
  • The IU Southeast Concert Band’s Winter Pops Concert, directed by Adjunct Lecturer, Philip A. Thomas was dedicated to the memory of IU Southeast Concert Band trumpeter, Ray Rice, who passed away January 8, 2023
  • A faculty recital entitled Her Voice, featuring Adjunct Instructors Carrie RavenStem and Adrienne Fontenot’s debut performance as Duo 066 was held on April 1. The recital focused on the music of living female composers.
  • The IU Southeast Concert Band under the direction of Adjunct Lecturer Philip A. Thomas, director, was held on April 16. A wide variety of music was performed by the concert band.
  • Adjunct Lecturer in Music, Ann Glazer Niren, along with Rebekah Dement, presented the keynote address at the Adjunct Faculty Scholars Conference on Saturday, April 15, at IU Southeast. The title of their talk was “Part-time Professors and Blue-Collar Scholars: A Celebration of Adjunct Faculty,” which featured a video in which they starred, directed, and edited.
