Ch 2: Conversations in Decolonizing GDS: Process, Obstacles and Opportunities

Conversations in Decolonizing GDS: Process, Obstacles and Opportunities

Georgina Alonso, Adrian Murray, Jess Notwell

In this chapter, the authors discuss their encounters with the harms of GDS, the ways in which their work seeks to address those issues, and the many obstacles that they have encountered in attempting to ‘decolonize’ GDS. They discuss the process of creating a syllabus which highlights contributions to decolonial ontologies, epistemologies and methodologies by scholars, activists, organizers, Elders, Knowledge Holders, and community members and provide pedagogical strategies that prioritize anti-racist, anti-imperial, decolonial action.
