3 The Early Days of Baseball
From the birth of baseball in 1839 the game has evolved in at every position and in every major league stadium. Baseball began as a recreational game that was played as a means of relaxation more than a sport. Home runs at the games inception totaled just north of 100 and have ballooned to more than 5000 in 2022.
In part, this can be contributed to the distance from the batters box to the outfield fence but also to the quality of the athlete and approach to the game. At bats have seen the focus turn from simply reaching first base to an all or nothing approach to score a run with one swing. The quality and training of athletes has most likely been the tipping point that brought baseball to the mainstream. This has created excitement that has seen the game grow to sold out venues and millions of fans around the world.
