10 The Steroid Era

During the late 90’s players began to look stronger and achieve athletic feats that had not been witnessed in the history of the game. The 1998 home run race that featured Mark Mcgwire and Sammy Sosa further captured the nations attention as the duo chased the all time single season home run record that had stood since 1961. The two players looked much larger than the majority of Major League Baseball players who played during the same time frame. Sosa and Mcgwire obliterated the record by six home runs and nine home runs respectively. Both players were found to have used illegal drugs in order to achieve their career highs which were then brushed aside and noted as invalid records.
