During the time that Ted Williams was still playing outfield for the Boston Red Sox and greater evolution in baseball was also happening. In 1947 Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier as the first African American player to join major league baseball. His unrivaled talent simply invigorated stadiums and in part began the steps that needed to be taken to begin the civil rights movement. Jackie Robinson was an amazing athlete who competed in a variety of sports including basketball and track and was exceptional at each of them. Robinson was the second baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers and went on to be inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
