11 “Be Yourself” with Jacob

When I first came to Indiana University, I wish that I knew to actively get to know the people in your dorm hall. These are the people that you’ll be living next to for the whole year so make sure that you get to know these people. You can make so many friends from your dorm hall and being friends with all of them will make being in your dorm so much more enjoyable. The best advice for making friends, like kids in your dorm hall or just on campus, is to put yourself out there and talk to people. Remember all of these people are in the same boat as you, being a freshman at a new school, not knowing too many people.

Another thing you should do to make friends is to join clubs such as intramural sports or other organizations that IU has to offer. Just make sure that you be yourself and talk to people around you and you’ll find a group that you really connect with.

When it comes to my favorite spot on campus I have to say assembly hall. Assembly Hall is the home to the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team and is the heart of school pride. Being in the building really makes me excited about being a Hoosier.

If you’re not sure about what you want to major in, choose classes your first year in topics you are sort of interested in. Whether those classes have to do with business, medical, math, etc…you’ll eventually find something that you’re interested in. Don’t worry about not knowing what you want to do right away, you are not alone. There are so many students that still haven’t picked their major out either. When I came to IU, I already knew that I wanted to do finance because I’m good at analytical topics and math and it’s something I’m interested in. Find a major that you’ll enjoy and something you may be good at.

You’re only in college once so make it count. Go experience new things, join that club you wanted to join, go play sports that you enjoy, make friends, study hard, and be yourself.
