Safely Tethered
Life did not seem to be good.
I was on the cusp of taking off
To be yanked back to the soft
Landing of my parents’ ideas of what I should
Be and accomplish in my life.
When deciding what to pursue
Whether or not to go to Purdue
I was bound to have some strife.
But she was my salvation.
A bargaining chip, you could say.
To keep me from sharing a room
And paying ungodly tuition
A gift to keep me from going away.
And her love and kisses have kept me from doom.
