26 Ocular Allergies

Jeffrey D. Perotti, M.S., O.D.

Take a moment to review the following article.  And remember – if your patient has a history of eye allergies, if they report itchy eyes, or you suspect that they have allergic conjunctivitis, make sure that you evert their lids.  You should also review all indications for everting the superior lids

Document what you found in the Anterior Tab in Compulink like this:  “Whatever-it-is-that-I-found-or-didn’t-find on eversion”  The words “on eversion” simply tells the person reviewing your chart that you everted the patient’s eyelids.  As an example “1+ papillae on eversion”

Finally, in an effort to familiarize yourself with Epocrates and with ophthalmic anti-allergics, take some time to open Epocrates and review:

Drugs > Ophthalmic > Antihistamines

Drugs > Ophthalmic > Mast Cell Stabilizers, and

Drugs > Ophthalmic > Corticosteroids
