Preparing for Class

Ordering Textbooks

Textbooks

From One.IU, locate the “SIS Student Center” application. In your “Academics” tab on the left side, click “Course List”. You will find a “View/Order Textbooks” link inside each course tab at the bottom left under “Additional Links”. This provides the ISBN of your textbooks.

You can use the ISBN to purchase the correct textbook edition assigned for your course from the IU Indianapolis Bookstore, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Half Price Books, or your preferred online retailer.

You can also enter your University ID number on the IU Indianapolis Bookstore website to get information about the textbooks you need and purchase them directly from the store.

In some cases, instructors may require materials from other sources like the University Library, in print, eBook, or audiobook formats. Search by the title and edition used for your class. Note: Library versions may have limited availability. Refer to your syllabus or Canvas site for details.

Note: Don’t rely on this library version as your primary textbook because it may not be available for the full duration of the class.

eTexts

For some courses, you may have an IU eText, which will be charged to your bursar account along with your other course fees. IU eText Fees are calculated in the first billing for each new term and are covered by every form of financial aid. Before the first bill is generated, the fee for any stand-alone text will be waived for any student who has previously purchased via IU eTexts. You should see your textbook once you are on that course’s Canvas site.

The Bursar collects and holds IU eText Fees until the end of the refund period. Publishers are paid for the materials students are actively using. Students who withdraw at any time during the refund period will get a 100% refund of all IU eText Fees. To learn more, check out the IU eText for Students webpage and/or enroll in The Student Guide to IU eTexts Canvas site.
