Taking Care of the Basics

Academic Honesty, Student Responsibilities and Safety

IU Indianapolis has established a comprehensive Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct. This code guides campus life, ensuring fair treatment while outlining your obligations to the university community.

As a graduate student, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with this code, especially the sections on academic and professional integrity. Remember, the university uses advanced tools to detect plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty in all aspects of your work.

If you’re taking on teaching roles, consider attending the annual Teaching Assistant Orientation offered by the Center for Teaching and Learning. This valuable event provides insights into maintaining academic integrity in your instructional duties.

For those in teaching positions, adhering to institutional policies and the student code for ethical conduct is not just recommended—it’s required.

Additionally, if you experience or witness any harassment, discrimination, or sexual misconduct, it’s important to report it immediately. The university has strict policies to address such issues and ensure a safe and respectful environment for all.

Take the time to review the code. It’s your roadmap to a successful and ethical academic journey at IU Indy.
