92 NMT Clinical Grade Policies
Clinical grades are based on professional characteristics and performance objectives that are issued to the student prior to the beginning of the clinical rotations.
Clinical site supervisors and technologist will evaluate the student throughout the assigned rotations.
The NMT Program Director is responsible for all evaluation materials. The evaluations may consist of:
- Any written notations recorded by the NMT Program Director based on documented evaluations of actual performance.
- Any comments given by the staff technologist and/or clinical supervisor.
- Any comments given by the Chief Technologist or Staff Nuclear Medicine Physicians.
- Written evaluations of professional qualities as attendance, punctuality, rapport, initiative, etc.
- Written evaluations of professional characteristics and performance ability in the specific clinical rotations.
- Written tests and/or clinical assignments on a rotation
Clinical Grade Calculation
The clinical grade will be based on three things:
Clinical Evaluations (80%)
- Two types of clinical evaluations: Professionalism and Competence
- Each clinical evaluation will be weighted equally
Program Director Evaluation (10%)
- Once per semester, the program director will do an evaluation of the student’s performance.
- This may be an in-person/in-clinic or verbal quiz away from clinic or a combination of both.
On-line Clinical Assignments (10%)
- Assignments specific to the assigned clinical rotation
Program Director Student Evaluation
Once each semester, the student will be evaluated in the clinic by the program director. This evaluation will account for 10% of the student’s clinical grade. When the program director arrives, the student must be available for evaluation. The only exceptions are if the student is at lunch, at an approved meeting, or has clocked out for the day. If they clocked out before 3:00 PM, they must notify the RISP clinical instructor for possible re-assignment. Failure to be in clinic when program director arrives for unannounced site visit, will result in a forfeiture of all points on the PD Evaluation.

A letter grade will be assigned to each student at the close of each clinical course. All information regarding course requirements, course objectives, sample evaluation(s), grading forms, and grading scales can be found in the clinical course syllabi. It is the student’s responsibility to know what is expected of them in clinic for each rotation. The student should consult the program director and/or the clinical site supervisor if the student is unsure of his/her progress during a clinic rotation. Periodic counseling sessions will be held with each student. Clinical records are always open to the student for review.
Clinical Passing Grade
Students must obtain a grade of “C” or better to pass each clinical course. If the clinical course grade for the semester is less than a “C” (2.0), then the student will fail that clinical course and be placed on probation.
Students must also obtain a grade of “C” or better for each rotation (based solely on clinical evaluations) to pass the clinical course. If a student earns less than a “C” for any rotation, but earns a “C” or better for the course, the following will occur:
- They will receive an “I” for the course
- They will be assigned additional clinical work. The amount of clinical work necessary will be decided by the program director and the clinical supervisor and will be based on the number of days necessary to allow the student the opportunity to earn a “C” or better.
- Once the additional clinical time is completed, the student will be evaluated again. If a grade of “C” or better is earned, the “I” grade will be replaced with a “C”. If a grade of “C” or better is not earned, the student will fail the course and will be placed on probation.
