7 Confirming the interview time and sending cover letter, resume, and fall schedule

After you settle on a date, send one more email to repeat and confirm the information. If they send a suggested time and you don’t respond, they sometimes assume you won’t be there and make other plans. If you have not already sent a resume, cover letter, and fall schedule, do it in this message.

View the campus map for general directions to buildings. If they give you a building code, enter it in the search bar and the building and name will pop up.

In the confirmation message

• Confirm the video platform or office location (and ask for directions if you aren’t sure), the supervisor’s phone number/the interview link, and who is calling or setting up the link (if virtual).
• If you haven’t already sent it, attach your resume (some supervisors may call it a CV), cover letter, and a draft of your fall schedule.

You will need to attach a cover letter document to explain why you selected the site, the skills you have, and how the internship fits with your career goals. Use your short answer responses from the application. Supervisors want to read this before your interview. Do not use ChatGPT or other generative AI to write the cover letter. It should be in your own words, with examples specific to you.

Review our template to ensure you have everything the supervisors want to know about you. This document should be no more than one page. If your responses exceeded the one paragraph suggested for the application, you will likely need to edit it down to fit on one page.
