Introduction
Welcome to the course “Life and Work Under Communism.” Communism is a political and economic system that advocates for the establishment of a classless society, where resources and means of production are commonly owned and controlled by the community as a whole. However, the implementation of communism often leads to tensions and struggles, and new “class enemies,” as we will see from the readings. As a socio-economic and political system, communism has significantly impacted various regions of the world throughout the 20th century. We will explore the characteristics and experiences of individuals living and working in societies governed by communist ideologies and gain a deeper understanding of the lived experiences under such regimes.
