Our first reading is about life and work in Czechoslovakia, a communist state from 1948 to 1989. Here is a brief history of communism in Czechoslovakia.
The reading here is Milan Kundera’s novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Kundera gives us intimate pictures of life under communism through his many novels. This article gives us a background of the socialist Czechoslovakia that Kundera grew up in.
