11 Scripts

INTRODUCTION

Generative AI is an excellent tool to assist in creating first draft scripts or providing iterative refinements to your scene, plot outline or dialogue. A useful way of looking at GenAI when scriptwriting is as your “assistant” or “second pair of eyes”. Just as your assistant may write you a 1st draft for a video or act as an editorial collaborator, you and GenAI can work side by side to restructure sentences, find alternative phrasings and fine tune your drafts.

SUGGESTED GUIDELINES

(Assisted with Microsoft Copilot)

  1. Define Your Vision:
    • Start with a Clear Concept: Before using GenAI in the scripting stage of your project, you should first have a well-defined concept for your video. Understand the topic, video type, and key points.
    • Example:
      • Video Type: Scenario
      • Logline/ Topic: In this video, we’ll explore how informatics and healthcare can work together, focusing on patient safety and evidence-based practice.
      • Key Points: Informatics for Nursing, Patient Safety and Evidence based practice.
  2. Collaborate with GenAI:
    • Iterate and Refine: Use GenAI as a collaborator. Input your initial draft and iterate “together”. GenAI can suggest alternative phrasings, restructure sentences, and enhance clarity.
  3. Style and Tone Consistency:
    • Maintain Consistency: GenAI can help maintain consistent style and tone throughout the script and ensure that the speaker/ characters’ voices remain authentic.
    • Character-Specific Writing: When writing dialogue, consider each character’s unique voice, background, and personality.
  4. Scene Descriptions and Action Lines:
    • Visual Clarity: GenAI can help describe scenes and actions vividly. You can specify camera angles, lighting, and movement.
    • Show, Don’t Tell: Try to use descriptive language to evoke imagery.
    • Example: “Billy is angry,” can be written as “Billy clenches his fists and stares down at the freshly mopped floor”.
  5. Editing and Polishing:
    • Post-GenAI Review: After working with GenAI, review the entire script and make any additional edits for coherence and flow.
    • Human Touch: While GenAI can help, remember that human intuition and creativity are irreplaceable.
  6. Legal and Ethical Aspects:
    • Originality: Ensure that the content generated by GenAI is original and not plagiarized.
    • Rights and Ownership: Understand the rights and ownership implications of collaborative work with AI. For additional information reference the Ethical Considerations and IU Policies section of this Pressbook.
  7. Celebrate Creativity:
    • Embrace the Process: Enjoy the creative journey. GenAI is a tool to enhance your storytelling, not a replacement for your imagination.

Remember, use GenAI as a partner—a co-writer who brings fresh perspectives. By integrating GenAI into your process, you can quickly create compelling and defined scripts.
