1 FIRST YEAR-EXPLORE

Your first-year in college is the time to EXPLORE.

That means focusing on academics, exploring majors, and career interests.

DID YOU KNOW?

70% of freshmen students will change their majors at some point their first year

Welcome to college life!  This is your time to explore lots of options, learn more about who you are and consider how you want to maximize these next four years at college!

Students often start off college with a some idea about what they want to study or do in the world of work, but many will change their mind as they begin to take classes, get involved with campus life, or learn more about the expansive options that are available to major in!

It’s okay if you change directions, or if you still aren’t exactly clear what you want to do–that’s what this first year is all about!  You have many resources available to you to help you discover who you are (interests/skills/strengths/personality) and what you want to do.

Do you know who is one of the best resources to help you figure this out? Your Career Coach!

Every student at IU has access to a career coach.  If you are in Undergraduate Education (pre-business, pre-nursing, pre-social work, or exploratory majors), you are assigned a career coach, just like you are to an academic advisor (to select classes).  If you are a direct admit into a particular school or a pre-major not listed above, you can make appointments with any of the career coaches in your school’s career center.  Everyone makes appointments to meet with career coaches via Handshake.
