LETTER FROM THE ENTERPRISE SYSTEMS LEADERSHIP TEAM

January 2024

During 2023, Indiana University, UITS, and Enterprise Systems (ES) evolved and shifted. The split of IUPUI and formation of IU Indianapolis is a large-scale change that pushes us to rethink the campus’s identity and how we support its new journey. UITS grew in 2023 with the addition of a new division of aligned onsite support individuals, Client Technology Support, led by Patrick Phillips. The move of the “edge” into UITS impacted ES directly through the addition of a few new faces, and indirectly as implementations, outreach, and oversight look different with our new colleagues being on the same team. Enterprise Systems’ largest change in 2023 was the move of our Enterprise Application (EA) partners to Enterprise Support Services. Although technically no longer members of ES, they are our closest collaborators and vital members of the ES extended family. Ensuring seamless collaboration with EA is a constant priority for teams in ES.

2023 put ES into the spotlight as critical partners in multiple high-visibility strategic initiatives and enterprise RFPs (requests for proposal). In addition to these multi-year efforts, ES continued to make progress on our 2023 areas of focus and ensure IU’s enterprise systems are supported at the highest level. Notable progress to the Digital Strategy Initiative included systematically migrating all the IU gateway sites to the iu.edu domain, implementing Siteimprove for the enterprise, launching a new website-approval process, and executing a comprehensive website-accessibility remediation project. In partnership with the VP of Student Success, UITS/ES released and awarded an RFP for a degree-management suite. We ended 2023 with the delivery of an IU Stellic environment with basic program and course information. This transformative tool will innovate the work of student-success professionals and the planning and registration experience for students. In addition to the Stellic RFP, ES is also partnering in faculty annual reporting, conversational SMS, and multiple digital strategy-related RFPs.

ES not only made strides in these outwardly focused strategic projects; the ES taskforces also delivered significant progress. The ES metrics and internship taskforces concluded their work, offering a path forward for teams to operationalize these activities. The internship task force continued to support managers in hiring outstanding student interns who have the potential to become future full-time employees. The documentation task force provided strong foundations to continue evolving our onboarding processes and standardizing our documentation resources. The data integration taskforce synthesized all their research into a recommendation document and presented to UITS leadership. We will begin executing this strategy in 2024.

Thanks for all the hard work and innovation of 2023. We can’t wait to see the transformative work of 2024. Bring on tomorrow!
