11 Top Hat: instructions
Top Hat is IU’s enterprise, ‘bring-your-own-device,’ clicker solution, but assessment (formative or summative) is really only the beginning. Top Hat is also a stepping off point for deeper, more profound discussions and interactions.

Design It – Individual

On paper or using the form below, write out some questions/activities that you could use in an upcoming workshop – push the tech to the limit; if you don’t have an upcoming workshop, consider questions from a recent consultation you had.
Creativity is key here – have fun with it, even if it may stray from work (e.g., a joke or ice-breaker activity, such as the “Caption this” question in Top Hat).
Build It – Individual/Group

- Log in to https://tophat.iu.edu via a “Private” or “Incognito” browser (ideally a laptop or tablet). Please use your IU Credentials to log in; if you signed in to Top Hat before, we’ve already added you to the course.
- Locate the course “All Centers working site,” and Enter.
- Create the questions/discussions you designed above within the Breakout’s folder – we can show you how to copy these over to a course so you can use these later too.
