Where to get masks and when to wear them – Parent tips
  • Start small and work up with time
  • Give lots of positive praise for wearing the mask “I love that you have your mask on!”, “great job leaving your mask on your face!”
  • Have multiple masks so your child gets used to wearing them and one is always ready to use.
  • Have additional masks on hand that can be used during play time
  • Answer questions about masks, but also focus on the positive of helping people to stay positive
  • Give choice when you can (fabric type, decorating, earloops vs ties etc).
  • Look to do rewards after wearing the mask.

Where to Get Masks and When to Wear Them

People are wearing masks to stay healthy and safe from the coronavirus

Wearing a mask can help keep myself and other safe from the coronavirus. I need to wear a mask when I leave my house.

I am okay to not wear a mask around people that live with my when we are at home or in our yard.

I do need to wear a mask when we are around other people. I also need to stay 6 feet away from others even if I have a mask on.

It is important to wear a mask when going places that I may be near other people. I need to wear my mask at stores, parks, and other places with gatherings of people. Some places will not let me in if I am not wearing my mask.

Some masks can be used again and others get throw away. All masks help keep people safe.

There are many different types of mask. I can order my mask online or find them in the store to buy.  Some places like the doctor’s office may give me a mask to wear while I am there.

I can also make a mask at home. I may need some supplies and help to make a mask, but I can ask for help if I need it.

Some places may have free masks they are giving to people. If I need a mask, I can ask someone to help me get a mask.

Wearing a mask keeps me and those around me safe.
