Introduction

This etext provides example video engagement activities to meet a range of learning outcomes. IU’s primary tool for video engagement is PlayPosit, available for all IU courses at no cost to instructors or students. PlayPosit can be used in a variety of ways; for example, instructors can create or find a video and then use PlayPosit to embed questions and/or discussions throughout the video to engage and check for students’ understanding as they watch. As well, instructors can have students create videos to submit for instructor-only feedback or feedback from their peers.

PlayPosit calls these interactive videos “bulbs.” One bulb contains at least one video and can contain as many interactions as you would like. Some interactions such as multiple choice, check all, and fill in the blank questions are auto-graded, while free-response questions and discussions are manually assessed by instructors. If set up through Canvas, all of these grades can be passed back to the Canvas grade book.

Our intent is for the activities herein to be a starting point from which you can add and modify fit the particular needs of your students and courses.
