52 Clinical Knowledge Quiz (CKQ)

The purpose of this quiz is to help students recognize various components of x-ray equipment in the clinical setting as well as the importance of image critique.

Requesting and completing a competency requires the use of the control panel and a critique of all images taken with the supervising technologist. In addition, the competency critique requires knowledge of all anatomy on the image as well as the position, projection, identifying the evaluation criteria of each image, knowing whether an image is acceptable/passable, and identifying artifacts or problems with the image. This means that students will be reviewing and analyzing images every clinic day, in addition to the classroom and lab settings.  Base knowledge will increase as the semester progresses.

Over the course of each semester, students will add to their foundation knowledge and will become more familiar with basic clinic terminology, functions and duties of a radiographer, ALARA concepts, x-ray tube, and control panel operation, wearing lead apparel, learning and applying the program’s clinic policies and procedures, and beginning to evaluate images for optimum quality.

Students are expected to retain this information in order to be successful in future courses.  Information that was just taught during in previous semesters is expected to be retained. For this quiz, students will not be responsible for analyzing images of anatomy or positioning that have not been covered in class or lab. In additional to learned clinical knowledge, students will use the DR techniques in the latest edition of Merrill’s Atlas and the Program Technique Chart for studying.

The date of the quiz will be announced in Canvas or emailed to the students.  The quiz is taken in the main classroom in Gatch Hall and/or the testing center. If taken in the classroom, it will be necessary for students to bring the laptop/tablets on that particular day.

This quiz will make up 20% of the student’s final clinic grade.  Objectives and additional details will be posted in Canvas for clinic course.
