11 RISP Clinical Compliance

Any incoming or enrolled student in the Radiography Program must meet all HPP health and clinical affiliate requirements by the established due date before attending clinical rotations or site visits. Please comply with the required documents to avoid an inability to attend required clinical experiences, leading to possible course failure and/or program dismissal.

As part of the clinical site affiliate agreements, all radiography students must fulfill all requested requirements without exception. These requirements must remain current throughout the program. Students who do not have acceptable documentation for criminal background history, negative drug screen, proof of health insurance, immunization, health clearance, and an appropriate fit test will not be accepted at any clinical rotation site.

Students who are unable to receive vaccination due to medical or religious reasons may be required to complete a university or clinical rotation site exemption form. It is important to note that many clinical facilities require all students and faculty to be fully vaccinated and may or may not have their vaccination exemption process, which students must follow. If the clinical site and the university do not accept an exemption, there could be limitations in finding suitable clinical assignments. Such restrictions will not waive the requirement for clinical experience needed for graduation.

Required Clinical Compliance

This information is first collected when the student begins the program in the summer. At the end of the spring semester of the first year, students are required to meet the same compliance issues for the program’s second year.  Students who do not comply with the policy will not be permitted in the clinic. The time off will be counted as personal time off until the student completes the prerequisites.

  1. Cleared Background Check
  2. Negative Drug Screen
  3. Current BLS CPR Card: The certification must be BLS for Healthcare Providers.
  4. HPP required Immunizations (HepB, Meningitis, MMR, Tdap, TST, Varicella, Flu, COVID-19)
  5. Proof of Health Insurance
  6. Approved Fit Test conducted by IUPUI Student Health (Only completed when the students begin the program in the summer)

The Health Professions Program (HPP), in conjunction with the Student Campus Health office, documents student compliance with all of these policies.  The HPP office can address any questions about paperwork or compliance with this policy.  The HPP office is located on the IUPUI campus in the Van-Nuys Medical Science Building at 635 Barnhill Drive, Room 203, Indianapolis, IN 46202.  You may contact them at 317-278-4752 or https://medicine.iu.edu/undergraduate-health-professions/admissions/medical-requirements

Due to the length of the immunization process for Hepatitis B, a student may attend clinic in the fall semester (if at least 1 dose out of 3 has been given) but must show proof of completion of the Hepatitis B series by the beginning of the spring semester.

No student will be allowed to attend clinic without proof of CPR certification.  The student will need to take personal time off until CPR training is completed and a valid CPR card with an unexpired date can be presented to program officials. Students must maintain their CPR certification throughout the duration of the program.  It is the student’s responsibility to renew their certification before it expires.

In addition to health requirements, the student is also responsible for completing any necessary hospital forms and/or attaching appropriate documentation in Canvas as requested. This includes but is not limited to special hospital forms required for student clinical rotations. Failure to submit required documentation by the required due date will result in a 1/3rd letter grade reduction at the end of the semester.

Lastly, students are required to complete a Clinical Orientation Checklist each time they rotate to a new clinical site. These checklists are posted in Canvas with a specific due date. Failure to complete and submit the checklist as assigned, will result in penalties described in the chart below in addition to 1 DBE per occurrence.

Late Submission of Clinical Orientation Checklists

Penalties are cumulative throughout the entire program

1st offense Written warning
2nd offense -1/3 letter grade reduction
3rd offense -2/3 letter grade reduction
4th offense -1 full letter grade reduction & probation
5th offense Course failure and program dismissal
